Pages are virtually pristine and intact. Covers are virtually pristine and intact except for a few tiny stains. Binding is tight. Slipcase is clean and intact overall but has slight wear to edges, slightly bumped corners, light surface wear, and a split measuring 2 1/4" along one of the bottom edges. This is Copy No. 159." A beautiful monograph featuring the life and work of Paul Kane and his travelogue, Wanderings of an Artist among the Indians of North America. Paul Kane (1810-1871) was an Irish-Canadian artist. He is perhaps best-known for being one of the first western artists to sketch and paint depictions of Indigenous Peoples of the Canadian West and American West. Kane was a well-traveled man, and in addition to touring western Canada and the United States, he also traveled to Europe. This monograph contains four parts which are a biography of Kane, Kane's Wanderings of an Artist, Kane's sketches and paintings (principally plates with brief captions), and a Catalogue Raisonne (no illustrations). Edited with a Biographical Introduction and Catalogue Raisonne by J. Russell Harper. Published for the Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth, Texas and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.
