Includes an introductory essay by Rorem describing his relationship with Paul Goodman ? "He was my Goethe, my Blake, and my Apollinaire" ? and his setting of Goodman's poems into songs. The book includes Rorem's settings (as well as the poems themselves) for "Near Closing Time," "Bawling Blues," and "Jail-Bait Blues." Also included are excerpts from Rorem's diary at time of Goodman's death in 1972 and an afterword. Designed, printed, and bound by Ken Botnick and Steve Miller in 1984. The edition comprises 115 copies with the first 25 specially bound in boards. This is no. 49 from the regular edition, signed by Rorem and Rivers. Very good with shallow bends to fore-edge; cover reveals the same shallow bends, sunning to spine, and moderate shelf wear.
