Several years ago, I had seen a program with Jane Pauley who wrote a book based on her award winning Today Show segment on people who were reimagining their lives after the age of 50. I remember thinking how great that was, but what about the tens of thousands of baby boomers who had taken on the role of being a caregiver for their aging parents? It was not what many would say is reinventing themselves, but more like coming to a crossroads where they were called to give fully of themselves to others instead. Stepping into a new phase of where the focus could be on “what is it I want at this stage in my life?” was put on hold. It was where my life had led me.
It was then I knew there was another side that needed to be given voice.
I began writing this book after that moment, several years ago. The nature of caregiving puts a focus on others and the book I had imagined took a back seat several times. It’s finally coming to fruition.
