A Pebble Cast in the Nordic Sea (Paperback)

Paperback. At twenty-two, Therese Marie Baba Christensen left the corporate world of the Philippines and arrived in Denmark as an au pair. On social media, her life looked perfect: tulips, sailboats, and endless smiles. Behind the curated photos, however, was a young woman wrestling with shame, solitude, and the weight of stereotypes placed on her brown skin and Filipina identity.A Pebble Cast in the Nordic Sea is a memoir of resilience and reckoning. With vivid imagery and unflinching honesty, Therese takes us inside her journey from the gilded illusions of success to the quiet battles of migration, where identity becomes a dance between visibility and erasure.Through stories of friendship, prejudice, and love, she confronts the expectations placed on Filipina women abroad, to serve, to submit, to be exotic, and instead carves out a voice that is bold, defiant, and deeply human. This is not only the story of one woman's migration, but also a call to see beyond stereotypes, to honor the strength found in vulnerability, and to discover what it truly means to belong.
