Por coincid�ncia, a fotografia foi inventada na precisa altura em que os povos come�aram a desbravar e a colonizar o espa�o vazio - da Am�rica � Austr�lia - quantas vezes empurrando, modificando, ou dizimando os ocupantes originais. A fotografia foi testemunha dessa coloniza��o. Pelo caminho, as pedras m�gicas e as forma��es rochosas mais imponentes iam sendo fotografadas, �s vezes apenas - como aconteceu com a conquista do Monte Everest em 1953 - porque estavam l�.
