About this Item
A very pretty book bound for Streatham College and given as an award for drawing. Heavily detailed plate inside front gives particulars. Illustrated throughout with images depicting China and told in the voice of children inquiring about the land and the traditions of China. The Illustrations are highly detailed and intact and are both in text and separately as plates. E C Phillips (Edith Caroline) (Mrs. Horace Looker) was an author of children s books, primarily of an improving nature. This particular edition is in wonderful condition with a great many illustrations. Binding is signed Relfe Brothers Limited London. Bound in smooth maroon leather with the title Streatham College/Fortiter et Recte/Streatham Common S.W. , a very nicely done spine in a lighter shade with gilt bouquets between ridges and gilt lettering in the second band with title and author. Some discoloration at top of front showing lighter than the ox blood tone of the rest. Very Good Condition: 8vo, maroon leather with gilt decorations around edge and college name on front; matching gilt decorations around edge on the back. Ridged and banded spine with gilt bouquet decorations with green in second band highlighting title in gilt. Marble endpapers and edges. Award plate inside front with name and other particulars.
