About this Item
The mountainous western half of the state dominates this map of Pennsylvania, which shows topography in hachure and individually labels some of the most prominent ranges. Several early railroads and canals are shown connecting mining regions to cities along the river, where iron and coal from the interior was exported across the country. Rivers were also critical for mining, agricultural and industrial operations, and settlements are concentrated along the state's numerous waterways. The map was engraved by G.W. Boynton and published in Boston in 1838 by Weeks Jordan & Co. for inclusion in T.G. Bradford's An Illustrated Atlas, Geographical, Statistical, And Historical, Of The United States And The Adjacent Countries. Sheet Width (in) 19.25 Sheet Height (in) 15.5 Condition Description The outer margins are slightly soiled, but otherwise the map is in near fine condition. Original hand color.
