Children and adults throughout the world continue to starve to death, kill each other, and not profit from past experiences. Why does history seem to repeat itself, and why do broad societal changes not occur?

Greg Ruediger attempts to answer these important questions in People: Is Real Change Possible? He suggests that, in spite of individual and collective actions making life easier, people remain as they always have been. Their emotional and intellectual characteristics remain the same. How, then, can broad societal changes occur? Increased self-awareness is the answer. Self-awareness is one's ability to understand how emotions and intellect influence thoughts and actions. When adults explore how their emotions impact decisions, many will gain a sense of calmness, acceptance, and hope as they become closer to harmony in spirit, mind, and body. Ideally, a collective increase in self-awareness might generate the level of energy needed for change to occur.

Greg Ruediger is a native of Minnesota. He is a former public school teacher of students with disabilities. Dr. Ruediger is currently an associate professor at a southeastern United States University. He teaches courses addressing the many complexities associated with educating all students.
