"Despite the advances made in recent years by archaeologists, not many people other than specialists are aware of the present state of knowledge of Southern Africa's prehistory. This book provides an up-to-date and authoritative account specially designed for the general public, first-year university students and high-school libraries. The text traces the threads of man's evolution in Africa, and his arrival and dispersal in the southern part of the continent from the earliest beginnings up to the Later Iron Age, which preceded the modern periods of immigration and colonisation of Southern Africa. The book also provides a useful introduction for the layman to the scope and methods of modern archaeology. The book is lavishly illustrated with colour and black-and-white photographs, charts, maps and diagrams.".
