The Perfect Crime: Concerning the Murder of Reality

The work employs diverse photographic techniques and Staiger and Uchtmann captured scenes on German crime series film sets, staging them to create abstract images that contrast with supposedly genuine crime scene and corpse imagery. In a portrait series, actors who played victims and perpetrators in German crime series were altered using artificial intelligence to generate new possible versions, mirroring the creation of phantom images in real police work. Additionally, locations used as movie sets for fictional crime scenes were documented as 3D reconstructions via photogrammetric methods, alluding to the potential emergence of so-called 'fear spaces'.
