Permission to Enter

A locked penthouse. A dead developer. A card with a detective’s name on it.

Detective Declan Riley has spent five years trying not to reopen the murder that broke him. His former partner, Tommy Kowalski, died in a clean scene with no forced entry, no witnesses, and no answer that ever made sense. The department moved on. Riley didn’t.

Then real estate kingpin Victor Langford is found stabbed in his luxury Cleveland penthouse, and the killer leaves behind a message Riley cannot ignore: his name, Tommy’s death date, and proof that the past was never closed.

As Riley digs into Langford’s empire, the case stops looking like a single murder and starts looking like a system. Missing reports. Rewritten environmental files. Vendor access logs that open doors no one should be able to open. A fixer with ties to City Hall, Internal Affairs, and the corridors where evidence disappears before anyone can ask the right question.

Every lead brings Riley closer to the same conclusion: Tommy wasn’t killed because he found a murderer. He was killed because he found permission.

Partnered with Detective Maya Chen and cut off from the department he once trusted, Riley has to decide whether justice can still happen inside a system designed to contain it—or whether the truth has to survive somewhere else.

Permission to Enter is a tense, atmospheric police procedural about corruption, access, memory, and the cost of asking who gets to open the door.
