Square small 8vo, contemporary calf, 596 pp. Joints cracked, back cover detached, front cover loose, lacks title page, but title of the first edition is included, binding very worn, a couple of signatures sprung, browning and scattered staining, could be a candidate for rebinding. Isaiah Thomas's dedication to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in the first American edition of 1788 (reprinted in this volume) identifies the work as "being the first work of the kind printed in America."
