Wilfrid Blunt, who had been drawing master at Eton from 1938, took a sabatical four months and, to achieve the ambition of a lifetime, departed for Persia and Afghanistan. Artist, botanist, writer, calligrapher and linguist he wrote a highly individual account of the fortunes and misfortunes of a traveller in lands not then open to tourism and still not ideally so today. xii, 252pp with black and white plates.

The village of Farningham has iron age origins, with much Roman settlement, and is today still predominantly 18th century in character. The shop is named after Wadard, one of Farningham's Domesday landlords, a henchman of Bishop Odo, William the Conquerers brother,and featured on the Bayeaux tapestry.
