Perspectives on Later Life: The Application of Research and Theory in Social Care

Health and welfare services for elders are changing rapidly, so students and established staff need up-to-date critical appraisals of theories and research on old age relevant to practice; guidance on current studies of ethical issues; and information on the current state of social care practice.
The work reflects recent work in this field which takes the points of view of individual elders into account and emphasises the importance of the views and subjective experience of people in middle and later life. A major theme is the conceptual shift from problem-focused stereotyped old age to the diverse contributions and needs of individual people.
