I began in earnest with the idea of making a recordof the function of things and how seemingly benign things can give wayto that of personal expression. While the precedents for this ideaare nothing new and some might argue heavily trafficked in, time andplace are not. James Agree wrote eloquently of a world that is its ownartist. I think that any fidelity to unvarnished truth begins withthe humility of that premise. In the same spirit F. Scott Fitzgeraldlikened good art to being like a letter home. The sensibility that informs Walker Evans' best photographs is a fidelity to unvarnishedtruth. In a world 'Where there are more photographs than bricks,' itis wondrous how the transparency of Evans' work resonates and continuesto enjoy a strong cultural shelf life. My ability to risk foolishnessis considerably more tolerable by his example.".
