Early edition; 5 1/4 x 4 1/2; pp. [6], 9-120; pictorial card stock wraps and 1/4 calf, decorated and ruled in black; illustrated with 9 maps and 75 woodcuts; age-toning and wear along margins; occasional spotting; corners of leaves curling; small manuscript note to ffep; in good condition.Samuel Griswold Goodrich (1793 - 1860), writing under the pseudonym Peter Parley, would write a series of educational works for children in order "to provide an alternative to the British biases of 19th-century schoolroom texts and the questionable morals of nursery rhymes.".
