An early edition of this nautical novel set during the Napoleonic wars by Captain Marryat, an early pioneer of nautical fiction. An early Paris edition of this novel in a quarter calf binding. Peter Simple is an 1834 novel written by Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), about a young British midshipman during the Napoleonic wars. It was originally published in serialized form in 1833. Marryat was a Royal Navy officer, a novelist, and an acquaintance of Charles Dickens. He is noted today as an early pioneer of nautical fiction, and particularly for his semi-autobiographical novel Mr Midshipman Easy (1836). In a quarter calf binding. Externally sound, though rubbed to the spine and bumped to the boards and extremities. Front hinge is splitting but still reasonably firm. Internally, firmly bound.
