This zany book begins when Yoichi Taba, who is frustrated at being unable to find employment, lands a job with a security agency. Taba takes the position innocently enough, not realizing that the company's mission is to fend off phantom presences that threaten the human race. When Taba does learn that he has secured employment with a company that not only defends humans against phantoms but offers no holidays or vacations, he is ready to quit until he discovers that he enjoys the work too much to leave. Artist and writer Ito does a credible job of balancing the real-world need for employment with the fight against the phantom world and then deftly switching to a total fantasy format. The artwork is playful and cartoony rather than representational or realistic. A fun book; recommended for "all ages" public library collections and libraries where Japanese studies are popular.
