Contemporary three-quarter leather over marbled boards, enlarged from the 1675 original by Sir Samuel Egerton Brydges, gilt lettering to spine, binding tight pages clean & largely unfoxed, a.e.g., minimally ex-library (Boston Public Library & Occidental College) with label to front pastedown and blindstamp to title page recto & to page 1, removal stamp to title page verso and small label to spine, from collection of Keats scholar Earle Vonnard Weller with his bookplate to pastedown and curious inked note (by Weller?) to second & third white pages quoting a passage from Lamb's Literary Sketches of 1848 concerning Phillips' Poetarum, externally the boards are moderately rubbed & the leather chipped at all edges with loss to spine ends (particulalrly the tail), professionally rebacked c. 1920, an overall Very Good copy of this scarce compendium of biographies of English poets penned by Milton's nephew, Phillips; 8vo; (lxxix) 336.
