First and only edition. Quarto: 47, (1 index)pp. Title page a little soiled and has a few ink spots, but a good copy in modern stiff marbled wrappers. A dissertation in the form of a dialogue on the history of public bathrooms. In it, Rolleston coins the word "watercloset. A scarce and curious treatise on scatology, with numerous references from classical sources illustrating various cultural attitudes toward "lavatorial behaviour." The second part describes various historical types of receptacles for human excrement and urine.
