A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful. With an Introductory Discourse concerning Taste; and several other Additions

A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful is a 1757 treatise on aesthetics written by the Anglo-Irish politician Edmund Burke. It was the first complete philosophical exposition for separating the beautiful and the sublime into their own respective rational categories. It attracted the attention of prominent thinkers such as Denis Diderot and Immanuel Kant. This copy is fair only in 1/2 leather on marbled boards and gilt titles on the spine. The front board is detached and the rear board is loose. The spine cover is separating from the text block. However, the text block is sound and the text is relatively clean and unmarked, with only scattered foxing, primarily on the first few pages.
