Hardcover. Original, full brown leather. Front cover detached but present. Rear cover held on by cords only. Spine has raised cords and gold rules, but is dry and a bit flaky. Text block square and currently intact, but a block with the first 32 pages has slipped the bottom two cords and needs to handled carefully to prevent it coming further apart. First page present is the title page. This is the Second edition of Martin's work. 362 pages. Printed on good paper, which is white and largely free of fading and foxing. There are 26 fine folding, engraved, plates. All numbered and all present and in good condition. The first edition of Martin's work was published in 1734. This edition from 1738 is expanded, and with 10 additional plates. The 4 sections of the book are: Somatology; Cosmology; Aerology; Geology. Measures 5.25 x 8 inches. Bookplate (from the 1900's) on the inside front cover with the name Lewis S. Reid. Please email with questions or to request photos.
