KB65.[viii], 273 pp. 12mo 7" x 4". Full sheep of the time with black and gilt spine label. Normal minor scuffing and wear to the covers. Interior end papers have some small notes and marks, text is clean but there is quite a bit of foxing throughout as is normal. Blanks are present. This copy has no frontise but I'm not sure that any of those printed for Bradford by Watts did have the frontise, while those printed by Watts for Johnson at the same time definitely did. A pleasing copy The 1805 first American edition is vanishingly scarce, and this particular 2nd edition is a bit scarce itself. OCLC 926105612 .A treatise on aesthetics written by Edmund Burke. It was the first complete philosophical exposition for separating the beautiful and the sublime into their own respective rational categories. It attracted the attention of prominent thinkers such as Denis Diderot and Immanuel Kant. Burke (1729-1797) was an Anglo-Irish statesman, author, orator, political theorist, and philosopher who served for many years in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom as a member of the Whig party. Burke was an early and prominent supporter of the American Revolution and against the French Revolution -- he had a great impact on U. S. Founding Fathers and later American thought. "In the English-speaking world, Burke is often regarded as one of the fathers of modern conservatism, and his thinking has exerted considerable influence over the political philosophy of such classical liberals as Friedrich Hayek and Karl Popper.
