The Philosophy of Plotinus. This item is unavailable. The Philosophy of Plotinus

"The Philosophy of Plotinus: Volume I." represents a landmark achievement in the study of Neoplatonism and ancient philosophy. Based on the celebrated Gifford Lectures, this work by William Ralph Inge provides an exhaustive and sympathetic analysis of the thought of Plotinus, one of the most influential thinkers of late antiquity. Inge moves beyond mere historical survey to offer a profound engagement with the metaphysical and mystical dimensions of "The Enneads."

In this first volume, the author situates Plotinus within the broader context of Greek philosophy, examining the intellectual heritage of Plato and Aristotle that shaped the Neoplatonic worldview. The text delves into the hierarchy of existence, exploring the nature of reality, the soul, and the divine intellect. Inge's prose is both scholarly and accessible, aiming to demonstrate the enduring relevance of Plotinian thought to modern religious and philosophical inquiries. By bridging the gap between classical Hellenism and early Christian theology, "The Philosophy of Plotinus: Volume I." remains an essential resource for students of metaphysics, the history of ideas, and the evolution of Western spirituality.
