"Phil" Fagan, heiress to Castle Fagan, a lovely old place in which she had lived with her mother. On her mother's death she is faced with the unhappy news that she can no longer live at the Castle, which in fact, becomes tenanted by a Major Verity. Bitterly disappointed, Phil decides to live alone in a little house and make money on horses. Disaster follows disaster at "Phil's Castle", and Phil is faced not only with poverty, but also with being suspected of stealing a wonderful emerald belonging to Mrs. Van Ryan, a rich American's wife. The story of how Phil struggles on, saves Van Ryan from gangsters, is proposed to, but refuses riches is a delightful one. In the end Paul Verity, the tenant of Castle Fagan who loves her, is left hoping that one day Phil will come back to her own castle. The Times said "the experienced hand of Mrs. Conyers never fails to turn out a vivid story of Irish sporting life". Seller Inventory # 49248
