That biblical and Canaanite literature are related has been understood for some time and yet no actual literary works have come to light south of Ugarit. However, remnants of Phoenician literature remain in Phoenician and Punic inscriptions. This unique study compares common elements of Phoenician inscriptions (word pairs, literary phraseology, similes, idioms and expressions) with similar literary useage in the Bible. Avishur then turns his attention to sven major inscriptions representing various genres to augment his comparative analysis.
