A group of six binders hold issues 1-348 of The Phoenix and The New Phoenix. The earliest issues have pen dates of 1947, the last issues are dated 1955. The first is Issues 1-100, dated 7/9/47 in pen, second is 101-150 dated 1946, third is 151-200 dated 1948, fourth is 201-250 dated 1950, fourth is 251-300 dated 1952, fifth is 301-348 dated 1954. Four of the volumes are in clip binders, two are bound into book, with cloth boards, all binders contain indexes at the front. Many issues are toned with edge wear. Walter Brown Gibson (1897 ? 1985) was an American writer and professional magician, best known for his work on the pulp fiction character The Shadow. Produced by Tannen?s Magic, The Phoenix was a bi-weekly magic periodical written by Walter B. Gibson and Bruce Elliot. It ran for over 300 issues from January 1942 to Feb 1954 and featured ideas and tricks from some of the most respected magicians in the world.
