About this Item
Oblong quarto measuring 12" x 10". String-tied flexible leather with "Glimpse of Old Oregon" etched into the front wrapper. Contains 108 cyanotypes measuring between 3" x 3.5" and 4.5" x 6" and 2 sepia-toned silver gelatin photographs measuring 3.5" x 4.5" with captions. Very good with edgewear with near fine photographs. A photo album of cyanotype photography depicting Idaho and Oregon in the late 19th century. Many of the images show the landscape of the states along with local farmers, log cabins, and small towns. One photo of a man standing with his dog is captioned, "a builder of the Great West;" another page showing two waterfalls reads, "a glimpse of Oregon scenery The Columbia." The compiler also features local businesses including one page of a mining company which reads, "mining is a leading industry in Idaho." Other photos show a "Prune Orchard" in Idaho, a "smeltery," and a "constitution cabin." The "rugged grandeur" is presented throughout the album with views of rocky shorelines, mountains, and lakes. Towards the end of the album a camping site is seen with women and men posed with their horses, fishing, and swimming. A group of men are pictured with their sheep sheering tools and in the process of sheering in a following image. One photo of a farmer watches his sheep reads, "sheep are raised extensively in Idaho." A nice collection of turn-of-the-century photography of Oregon and Idaho. Seller Inventory # 467375
