Item description from seller

Oblong quarto measuring 12" x 9". String-tied black leather over stiff paper boards with "photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 176 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 4" and 3.5" x 5" with captions. Very good album with some wear on the board and page edges and short tears with near fine photographs. A photo album compiled by a Michigan family in the mid-1950s detailing events around the state, mostly pertaining to animals and outdoor activities. The album begin with the 1954 Michigan State Fair with images of horses, trailers, livestock, and more. They then captured a visit to the Children's zoo at Bell Lake, Michigan with one set of photos captioned "Bambi and friends" which shows baby deer being bottle fed by zoo employees. Later they headed to a rodeo and horseshow in Dixboro, Michigan which includes photos of riders with captions such as, "as proud are ever!", "a fine grey, spirited horse," and "two beauties of the Oakland County Sherrif's Mounted Division." Other photos show riders before and after performing with their horses. The end of the album centers around a trip to Huran National Forest area of Michigan. Here they visited waterfalls, the sports arena, and a site dedicated to Paul Bunyan complete with an enormous statue of Paul and Babe the Blue Ox. They also stayed at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island with images of the historic hotel and the surrounding area seen here. Additionally interspersed are a few family photos taken at home, although the majority is events they went to. A wonderful collection of photos following a Michigan family while they explore outdoor adventures with an emphasis on animals.…
