Item description from seller

Oblong quarto measuring 11.5" x 7". String-tied black leather over stiff paper boards with "Photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 240 sepia-toned or black and white silver gelatin photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 5" x 7" with captions. Very good album with tiny tears and some edgewear with very good or better photographs. A photo album compiled by Fannie V. Steninger of Colorado Springs between 1913 and 1923. It is not in chronological order but rather serves as a general family and travel album documenting trips and home life over a decade. Steninger begins the album with a handwritten title reading "Mixed Multitude: Fannie Steninger's Book" and is accompanied by a portrait of Fannie herself. Fannie and her family and friends travel throughout the United States visiting California, Virginia, Oklahoma, Montana, and South Dakota, among other places. The photos show snapshots of family homes, new babies, friends, and various sights of the places they traveled. One section shows Fannie in her car parked by Buffalo Bill's grave in 1919. Another features two Native Americans in traditional dress with the caption "Indians in the Garden of the Gods Summer 1920." One photo of a younger woman from Los Angeles shows her in 1920s flapper style fashion. Two well-composed images show well dressed women and a donkey hiking a waterfall in 1921. Another couple of photos shows a car on the road to Cripple Creek, Colorado. Fannie compiled hundreds of photographs in her book as keepsakes and remembrances of her travels and friends. The travel done in this album seems to have been motivated by illness as, according to her obituary, Fannie had moved back to Colorado from Missouri to use the mountain region to recover from a sickness. After her decade of travel, Fannie spent the rest of her life in Colorado passing away in 1939. An extensive family album amassed between 1916 and 1923 detailing the travels of a woman and her family in the Western United States.…
