Oblong quarto measuring 12" x 10". Black cloth over flexible paper boards. Contains 254 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs most measuring around 3" x 4.5" with captions. Very good photo album with rubbing and edgewear with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a family while on various New England vacations between 1911 and 1919. Beginning in 1911 the family is seen on the outskirts of Boston enjoying time on the Charles River with photos of boating and hiking. One section of photos shows a Knights Templar Parade in the area and women posing around the town with captions such as "three little maids." In 1912 they went to Tamworth, New Hampshire. Here they went to Berry Farm and Camp Paugus with photos of the farm and Mt. Chocorua. These photos also include the Swift River, White River, and the family posing around their vacation home. In August 1913 they went to Orr’s Island, Maine with photos of the wharf, the room they stayed in, and Harpswell Bay. One photo shows a group of women in swimming costumes with the caption "a dancing party" and another of the women reads, "we try the water." They photographed the ocean, Gull’s Nest, and the "rocky shore" of the Maine coast. They include images of a clambake on the shore and a visit to Ragged Island and Pound of Tea Isle. In 1914 the family went to Hampton, New Hampshire beginning with a photo of "some of the crowd" at their Riverside house. One photo shows a woman taking a walk as a blurry train goes by in the distance. They went swimming, hiking, fishing, and to beaches in the area. A photo of a woman hanging off a boat reads "come on in the water’s fine!" The 1915 trip took them to Stockton Springs, Maine. This included trips to the Penobscot River, walking the fields, and boating. They are photographed digging for clams and watching the waves. The album skips around a bit at this point and jumps ahead to September 1918 with a trip to Milton, New Hampshire. They went to Nutter Camp and stayed at Echo cottage. They had afternoon tea on the banks of a river and went canoeing. The final trip was a 1919 vacation again to Milton, New Hampshire which included a trip to Salmon Falls River and Orient camp. Interspersed throughout the vacations are a few photos of the home life of the family which involved posing by family homes, garden parties, playing with kittens, and photographing babies. A nice collection of photographs of vacations in the New England area for roughly a decade.…
