[Photo Album]: Oregon

Oblong octavo measuring 7" x 5.5". Black cloth over stiff paper boards with "Photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 24 albumen photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 3.5" x 5.5" with captions. Very good album with a tear on the front hinge and edgewear with near fine photographs. A photo album compiled by an Oregon girl Lula as a Christmas gift to her father in 1902 with an inscription stating this on the front pastedown. The album opens with family photos posed around their home. Following this are photos of Cascadia, Oregon including scenery, camping, buildings, and construction in the area. The community of Cascadia, on the South Santiam River in central west Oregon, was established only ten years earlier in 1892. The area was home to several mineral springs resorts, shown here are the Cascadia Hotel, the grounds of the Cascadia Soda Spring, and the Spring House at Sodaville. Also shown here is a large camp in Cascadia, logging activities, "crushing rock for streets," the river at high water, and the bridge at the slaughterhouse, among other images.
