[Photo Album]: Victorian Photography

Oblong 12mo measuring 5.5" x 4.5". String-tied green cloth over stiff paper boards with "photographs" stamped in gilt on the front boards. Contains 101 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring around 3" x 3" with some captions. Very good album with bumped edges with near fine photographs. A photo album compiled by a well-to-do Baltimore family around 1904. Many of the images show fashionable men and women posed around family homes and gardens. There are also photos of young children including one on an early bicycle-style wagon. The family is seen traveling by boat with images of women posed on deck with parasols. The photos also include images of the Potomac with views of passing sailboats and buildings. One section shows a parade through Washington D.C. which passed crowds and the Hotel Regent as well as Chase’s Polite Vaudeville Theatre. These photos show buggies, horses, and uniformed participants marching passed the Hotel Regent. Towards the end of the album the family is seen at the seaside with the family posed on the beach, in bathing costumes, on a sailboat, and on a horse-drawn wagon on the beach. One interesting photo shows the storefront of the American Ice Company in Baltimore which later became Baltimore American Ice.
