About this Item
Small quarto measuring 6.5" x 9.5" as well as a corps handbook and June Week program. String-tied wooden boards with "snaps" and an illustration of a dog painted on the front board. Contains 189 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2" x 3" and 4" x 6" with captions. Very good album with detached but present pages with near fine photographs. A photo album and related material kept by a West Point cadet, Bob, and his girlfriend Esther Hale between 1939 and 1941. Included with the album is a copy of the 1938 *Bugle Notes,* the Corps' handbook, and the June Week, graduation week, program from 1941, presumably when Bob graduated. Inside the handbook Bob wrote, "for Esther's enlightenment, in case I forget anything. Here's to more grand weekends like this one has been. The cadet who never knows what he can do." The photos were taken between 1940 and 1941 and show Bob, Esther, and his fellow cadets around the campus. Bob is seen wearing his white uniform in the early pages and posed smiling with Esther at his side as they take sweet photos around the campus. One series of photos shows portrait style photos of Bob and Eshter. Later photos show Bob in his gray uniform with hat and full coat with cape. Towards the end of the album the 1941 June Week is photographed with images of parades, marching cadets, and ceremonies. Additionally laid in is a small envelope titled "West Point pictures (not so good)" and includes outtakes from the photos included in the album. A nice collection of a West Point cadet's time at the academy with a focus on graduation events. Seller Inventory # 413011
