The Photographic Atlas of the Stars

The Photographic Atlas of the Stars contains 50, high-quality full color photographs of the entire night sky of the northern and southern hemispheres. Each plate is accompanied by a star map of the identical area, which identifies the main stars of the constituent constellations as well as other interesting astronomical objects. In addition to this detail, Sir Patrick Moore has written a commentary for each plate that highlights the stars and objects of interest to observers equipped with binoculars and that includes detailed tabular information on astronomical objects of the region. The resulting double-page spread provides an invaluable reference for the amateur astronomer, detailing the constellations and other heavenly bodies of interest that are observable with the naked eye, binoculars, or a small telescope.

"It is a book which will fill the needs both for a working atlas and an excellent photographic record of the whole sky." -- Spaceflight

"Overall, I think the book is excellent. The presentation is good, the sky charts are clear and sufficiently detailed for most amateur views and astrophotographers and the photographs are pin-point sharp and of sufficient depth to show the star fields without swamping the field." -- Bulletin of the ASSA

"The Photographic Atlas of the Stars is beautifully photographed and written and presents a wealth of information to delight those of us who love and use maps of all kind - particularly, sky atlases." -- Sky and Telescope

"The book has been beautifully produced and the images are of exceptionally high quality. But the great joy of The Photographic Atlas of the Stars is that it underlines what is possible." -- Physics World

"The book is a valuable asset to any library shelf: where else can one turn for a full set of photographs of the sky?" -- Journal of the British Astronomical Association

"This book will appeal to astronomers of all levels of expertise. It is designed as a working atlas, but is stunning enough to dress up a coffee table." -- Astronomy

"This volume sets a standard for what can be achieved with care and affordable resources, and provides a challenge which should generate enormous excitement." -- Astronomy & Geophysics
