Grade 4-8 The illustrations are as prominent as text in this brief, colorful overview of the field of photography. Fraser gives attention to both historical background and modern technology. Various types of cameras and films are introduced. Also covered are modern applications of photography in daily life and in several fields such as journalism, medicine, industry, aerial and underwater exploration, movies, and television. For the most part, the presentation is non-technical and will not intimidate students with reading difficulties. The print is large and dark. New terms given in bold type are defined in the glossary. The quality of the photographs and drawings ranges from average to good. Although the book does not offer much detail, young readers may become interested in the subject from looking through the pages. There is little recent material on photography in an easy-to-read format, and this book should be a useful addition to libraries that must meet the needs of a variety of readers, especially older students with lower reading levels.
