Two Great War era naval booklets. Both extremely rare - just 1 copy of a 1920 edition of Item 1 on Copac (National Maritime Museum), no OCLC record found. 1) PHYSICAL ACTIVITY EXERCISES FOR USE AFLOAT Dated 7/18. Original stiff blue printed wraps 11 x 17cm, 13pp including 7 exercises with in-text illustrations and notes for officers. Wraps good, marked and creased, staples rusted, interiors lightly creased, previous owner name and notes to front wrap. 2) DEMONSTRATION OF RECREATIONAL TRAINING Staple-bound wraps 13 x 21cm Undated, post-1914. 6pp describing the Recreational Training Course, which included boat pulling, boxing, sabre, bayonet, catch as catch can wrestling, Indian Club Swinging, musical activities etc. Centre-folded and foxed with numerous pencil annotations, including a detailed description of "The Game of Life". PROVENANCE: E.H.P. Edgcumbe inscribed inside Item 1 "attended Comr. Coote's lecture on this subject in 'HMS Chatham' 29/10/18". He later became a Captain. HMS Chatham (launched 1911) was at this time in the Reserve Fleet. Commander Coote and Lt. Cr. Burnett names penciled to Item 2 perhaps led the demonstration.
