Piano Junior : A Creative and Interactive Piano Course for Children: Lesson Book 1

Hans-Günter Heumann's Piano Junior - Book 1 is a creative and interactive beginner piano course for children from around age six, combining structured instruction with online audio and supporting digital resources. Created by leading piano educator Hans-Günter Heumann, the course features PJ the robot and Mozart the dog as colourful recurring characters. It is designed for children learning at home or in lessons, while giving parents and teachers a clearly organized path through essential musical concepts.

The course begins with black notes and user-friendly graphic notation before gradually introducing white keys and traditional music notation. Its units cover the piano, keyboard, beat in music, the notes C-D-E, the five-finger position C-D-E-F-G, the stave, treble clef for the right hand, bass clef for the left hand, and reading and writing piano music. This progression connects keyboard exploration with rhythm, note recognition, and the foundations of reading written piano music.

Online resources extend the course beyond the printed material. Teachers, parents, and children can access demonstration videos, recordings, and downloadable resources through the Piano Junior website, providing additional ways to hear and explore material introduced in the course. The combination of visual presentation, structured musical concepts, and supporting media can help keep regular practice varied and engaging while developing familiarity with notation, rhythm, and the keyboard.

As the opening Lesson Book in the Piano Junior series, this volume brings structured piano instruction and digital resources together in one child-focused course. It can support lessons, home learning, and shared practice with a parent or teacher, while its colourful presentation also makes it a thoughtful music gift for a child beginning piano study.
