Gazza wept, Thazza quit and Saddazza came a cropper in Kuwait. It's been a busy year, and Punch has followed it every step of the way.

When the world condemned Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, Punch sent a pair of journalists, posing as businessmen with
connections in Baghdad, to find a London ad agency prepared to mount a campaign explaining Saddam's point-of-view. The resulting spoof fooled the Financial Times, Campaign magazine and a lot of lads in red spectacles (and even redder faces).

When the Sunday Times printed pictures of celebrity garbage, Punch raided the dustbin of Andrew Neil, the
paper's editor. Then we showed his Weight Watchers baked beans, his Mr Kipling cakes and his Clinique Non-Streak Bronzer for Men.

When John Major spoke of the classless society, Punch polled the classiest clubs in London to see which of them would have the PM as a member. The answer was, 'He's not quite our kind of chap, old boy'.

Mr Punch, however, is everyone's kind of chap. Particularly when Stephen Pile, Peter Tinniswood, John Sessions, Dillie Keane and a host of award-winning journalists have been contributing to his pages.

And yes, Punch has still got the finest cartoons in the world.
