This is a playful book with a serious purpose. Most of us can describe how a painting makes us feel, but few can say why. Bang brilliantly illustrates how simple forms--diagonals, triangles, curves, horizontals--can be active, soothing, or downright scary. She shows how color alone can change the dynamics of those forms. No dry handbook on the principles of design, this work spins out Bang's ideas within the framework of the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The book contains visual surprises on every page, beginning with a clever double cover. It might serve as a preliminary work to Nita Leland's The Creative Artist (North Light Bks., 1990). Picture This can help child or adult visualize the ordinary with the eye of an artist.
