Pignoli the Pig: A Fairytale in Rhyme

High in the Italian hills, lived a family of five pigs. The mother and father were generally proud of their self-reliant piglets.

That is, except for the middle pig. While his sisters would forage for the family food, he thought everything was just a game.

But in fact, he would never have a name himself, if he didn't do the same.

Readers of Maurice Sendak's Chicken Soup with Rice, and Alligators All Around will be sure to enjoy this fairytale told in rhyme, along with its colorful illustrations.

Young children will enjoy this silly tale of a piglet who must find a special food to forage, in order to earn his own name.

Older children may grasp the deeper meaning, that there is value in working together, towards a shared goal.

In addition, there is an overarching broader narrative regarding the necessity for human stewardship of our one world.

This complex topic is written into the seemingly simple fairytale, so that children may understand the concept.

Inga Eissmann Bucccella is the author and illustrator of several children's books, at least one novel and a book of poetry.
However, this is her first book about a pig family living high in the hills of Italy. In her etsy shop, Pupspressions, she has created a thousand custom portraits of pets. Cats, dogs, hamsters, and even the occasional lizard rendering, is ordered. But recently when she was asked to create an illustration of a pet pig, in her mind, a story began weaving into this piggy tale.
Pignoli's story is one of growth. At the beginning, he is quite unambitious, but by the end he has a name that is quite delicious!
