The Most Loved, Respected, and Complete Modern English Version Since 1989
This is John Bunyan’s immortal classic distinctively and carefully revised for the 21st century reader.
Literature produced by Bunyan (more than 60 published works) is regarded by many to be at the same high level as those of such other great English writers as William Shadespeare and John Milton. The Pilgrim’s Progress is John Bunyan’s most popular work and has been continually marketed and distributed since it was first published in 1678.
The Pilgrim’s Progress has gone through thousands of editions and versions. The first several editions contained only what is now known as Part One—the journey of the man named “Christian,” the Pilgrim, who traveled “from this world to that which is to come.” Part Two was added by Bunyan in 1684. Part Two contains the progress of the Pilgrim’s wife, “Christiana,” and her children, all of whom later began the journey after they, themselves, had earlier opposed the Pilgrim’s decision to leave the City of Destruction and tried to keep him from going.
The Pilgrim’s Progress in Modern English includes both parts in one book. This edition also contains over 50 vintage illustrations, an article titled “The Life of John Bunyan,” a Study Guide, a multi-page “Event Outline and Two Part Comparison of the Experiences of the Principal Characters,” and an exhaustive Index of characters, places, and important experiences by Christian to help the reader with future reference and study.
This complete edition of The Pilgrim’s Progress, updated by author and editor L. Edward Hazelbaker, is part of the Pure Gold Classics collection by Bridge-Logos Publishers, and is the first of three books in the Bridge-Logos John Bunyan Collection. All three books, The Pilgrim’s Progress in Modern English, The Holy War, and Grace Abounding to The Chief of Sinners—were updated by L. Edward Hazelbaker.
