1881 c1881 (Catalogue to rear dated 1st October 1881.). Description: Gilt embossed illustrated front brown cloth and spine. Bevelled edges to boards. Yellow endpapers, bw frontis and 11 other illustrated plates by T. Stodhart. Language: English. Book Condition> Good: Wear to corners, edges and spine ends. Tear to front spine edge and across width - see photo. Cracked front endpaper with netting visible and some weakening to hinge. Tanned unmarked pages and text block edges. DJ Condition> Na. Pages [xii], 379, [16pp Including Catalogue]. Size: 12mo (large), 21.5cm by 14cm. Author: Thomas Stothard, RA (1755-1834), painter, engraver, and illustrator, executed the graceful original illustrations for Pilgrims Progress in 1788 Very popular as an illustrator and engraver, he may be best remembered today, perhaps, for his oil the "Procession of the Canterbury Pilgrims" (Tate), which was quickly engraved by L Schiavonetti & J Heath and widely sold Stothard was also friends with William Blake, the famous engraver-and-poet.
