Item description from seller

This 1834 Whittaker & Co. edition combines Oliver Goldsmith’s elegant history of Rome with William Pinnock’s structured learning aids, including examination questions and notes on Roman customs. Richly illustrated with wood engravings and detailed maps, the volume traces the city’s origins through the fall of the Empire. It stands as a refined example of a 19th-century school book, blending narrative history with essential visual and reference tools. Good/Fair condition. Russet leather binding with gilt titles to spine. Contents are clean with more toning to end papers. Ink stain to bottom fore-edge. Gathering "L" is slightly lose otherwise binding firm. Maps are good with small ink stain to bottom corner. Light edge-wear to extremities with some bumping to corners. Notable ring mark to front board and creasing along spine with small split to spine head.
