Pints, Protests & Pound Shops: A Satirical Journey through Modern Britain

In Pints, Protests & Pound Shops, the disgruntled wit of the masses meets the hard truths of modern Britain. This collection of poems and prose takes a satirical and biting look at contemporary life, from the absurdity of consumerism to the disillusionment of the working class. Through razor-sharp humor and insightful commentary, the collection tackles the contradictions and inequalities of post-Brexit Britain, where austerity measures, media manipulation, and corporate greed are allowed to thrive.

The collection begins with a bold exploration of fast food culture, as exemplified in the satirical poem “Let Them Eat Beige”. The theme of consumption runs throughout the book, from retail therapy to the rise of convenience culture, all examined with a sharp eye and a cheeky grin. But beneath the humour lies a deep critique of a country in crisis - a society where the political elite ignore the needs of the masses, and consumerism replaces real human connection.

In poems like “The Surveillance State” and “Disposable Lives,” the book comments on the loss of privacy, the growing class divide, and the suffocating sameness of modern life. The final poem, “A Final Thought,” brings the collection full circle, asking whether we’re too sedated by distractions to demand the change we need.

This book is for anyone who feels the weight of modern Britain’s contradictions and seeks to laugh at the same time as they reflect on its soul-crushing horrors. Poignant and politically charged, Pints, Protests & Pound Shops is a call to arms wrapped in dark humour and sharp satire, challenging readers to think about where Britain is headed - and whether we’re ready to change course.

Perfect for fans of political satire, English teachers looking for something relevant yet digestible for pupils, lovers of spoken word poetry, and anyone who's tired of the status quo.

This collection will make you question the world around you, and at least encourage you to try to laugh while doing it.
