"What's a Piper Cub?" is a book about a family being introduced to the fun of light aircraft flying. A child's question leads to a family field trip to the local small airport. There a friend shows them his Piper Cub and offers to take them for a flight.

Illustrations by aviation artist Sam Lyons, add scale and rich color that bring the story to life.

Written and illustrated by pilots, the book uses aviation terms to describe the fun and sensations of flying in light aircraft.

Children, ages five to nine, are the target age group for the book but it enjoys a popular following of aviation enthusiast of all ages.

About the Author

Jim Wheaton was lucky to grow up about three miles from a small town airport near Mason, Michigan. At age fourteen he started riding his bike to the airport, trading work for flying lessons. Starting in a Piper J-3 Cub, Jim is now a Captain for a major airline.

He and his wife, Kathe, and their children live on a small farm, (with an airstrip) in Western North Carolina.
