Hardback, approx 9.5 x 6.5 inches. In green cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Original grey paper covers bound inside. In very good condition. Some rubbing to edges and corners of cloth. Later hardback binding. Endpapers clean, original grey paper covers bound inside. Inside pages are all very clean, bright and tight throughout. No foxing or marks. Elsea very good clean and tight copy. 334pp. Collection of all the county?s place-names that were recorded in medieval documents. Of interest is the light it the book throws on the background of Thomas Hardy?s novels. One of the ?lost? names is Turberville Stoke which took its distinctive name from the Turbervilles, the well-known Dorset family of which we shall find better evidence in connexion with Winterborne Muston, Bryants Puddle and Melbury Sampford. Originally written as a Dissertation for Doctorate of Philosophy at Uppsala University. In English Language.
