Epistle Dedicatory, dated 1604, signed John Dod, Richard Cleaver. Richard Cleaver (1561-1614) was Associate of John Dod at Hanwell. Referenced by STC (2nd ed.) 6971.7. First published in 1603. Old vellum cover (original?) solid and slightly warped. Old tie holes on outer margin. Contents clean and crisp with title-page complete but needing rebacking (?). A very good copy for this old, popular comment.
Other than the Bible and the Psalm-book, it was the most commonly-owned book in early Plymouth Colony and in his well-known description of "the poorest or smallest library that is tolerable", Richard Baxter places "Mr Dod. on the Commandments" in his list of must-have practical English writers.
