This neat little plan of the harbor and town of Acapulco, Mexico was originally engraved by Richard William Seale for inclusion in George Anson's 1748 work, A voyage round the World.The volume documents the admiral's often perilous circumnavigation of the globe from 1739 - 1744, which included the capture of a Spanish treasure ship. Acapulco was a critical endpoint for these Manila galleons that annually transferred silver from Spain's colonies in the New World across the Pacific to the Spanish East Indies. The plan, oriented with east at the top, highlights defensive fortifications, labels important buildings and landmarks, and includes several depths soundings throughout the harbor. Sheet Width (in) 6.4 Sheet Height (in) 8.1 Condition Description Trimmed margins and some light scattered residue visible on the left edge (confined to the margin). Soft creasing along original fold lines and one small closed tear in the lower right, repaired on the verso. Light soiling visible at the top of the title cartouche.
