In the original French.The 1821 fourth edition of this topographical guide to Rome by archaeologist, antiquarian and topographical draughtsman Dr Friedrich Charles Louis Sickler.With two volumes bound in one, the first being Sickler's sixty-eight page topographical plan of Rome, considering its geology and antiquities, and bound with a folding frontispiece. The second being the fourth edition of Sickler's thirteen page explanation of the Roman countryside, for the use of travellers.Each bound with an individual title page.This work saw numerous editions in the first part of the nineteenth century, having initially been authored by Sickler between 1805 and 1810, during which period he taught in Rome. From 1812 onwards, he worked as the director of the Hildburghausen Gymnasium. In marbled paper wraps. Instances of fading and light handling marks to wraps, with closed tear to head of front joint of front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good.
